CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — The last of three public hearings by a legislative committee on Marcellus shale gas drilling is set in Clarksburg.
The hearing by the Legislature’s Joint Select Committee on Marcellus Shale is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Robert C. Byrd High School auditorium.
Committee members are seeking suggestions on how to better regulate the rapidly growing industry. The last public hearing Monday in Morgantown drew a standing room-only crowd. The debate pitted environmental concerns against job growth, with many speakers demanding a moratorium on new drilling in West Virginia and dozens of gas workers defending the industry.
